Have you ever just stopped to listen to the noise around you? Whether you are in a city and hear the screeching of tires on the pavements and the honking of horns or in the country and hear the sound of a truck driving down a dirt road and animals running through a field, we are all surrounded by noise.
We spend so much time running around worrying about what we have to do next, that we do not often take the time to stop and listen, to recognize each individual sound that we hear for what it really is. Underneath all this noise and distraction is the still, small, voice of God. It takes effort and discipline to stop and listen to what it is saying.
In Luke 10:38-42 we can read the story of two sisters named Martha and Mary. Martha is so distracted by everything going on around her that she misses what Jesus is trying to say. While Mary demonstrated discipline, by sitting at the feet of Jesus, blocking out every distraction, trying to grab on to every word that He is speaking.
Just like Mary we to are called to sit at Jesus feet, trying our very best to block out every distraction going on around us, trying to grab on to every word that Jesus is speaking to us.
What is He saying to you today?
