Reverand Dr. Karen Hamilton, the General Director for the Canadian Council of Churches was a recent guest at the CFOT chapel, and she brought us a reflection on her recent visit to New York City where she met with church leaders including Commissioner Christine MacMillan and the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Alison Lublink gives an invitation for those who are thirsty to come to God and drink from His spring of living water as she speaks to us from the book of Jeremiah. “I know a Fount” by Phil Laeger forms the backdrop for the theme. God calls some people who would never imagine in their wildest thoughts that they would be Salvation Army officers. Captains Deb and Jimmy Van derHeyden share their story through scripture, story and song, telling of God’s amazing Grace. Jimmy and Deb have just been appointed and are enroute to Quesnel B.C. as Corps Officers.
You can tell a lot about a community by watching. Looking at the neighbourhood stores, how resident’s tend their homes, what kinds of cars are parked on the street… it’s a bit like being a detective. And that is what faculty and staff from CFOT are doing every week in a Winnipeg community where The Salvation Army’s Multicultural Family Centre is located.
It was the first time in over 20 years that a sitting General visited Winnipeg, and CFOT is thrilled to offer you his address to cadets, officers and those who proclaim the gospel. In what proved to be a stirring message on this notable visit, General Shaw Clifton offered two words of inspiration to his congregation at the CFOT chapel, “Vision and Verdict”.
