As per Salvation Army regulations, May 1st marked the change to summer dress. Someone obviously forgot to notify the weather of this, as cadets awoke this past Sunday to a Winnipeg that was blanketed in white. Ever the realist, Rob Jeffery chose to give up the option of going “sans” tunic, and it was winter garb as usual.
The CFOT community took advantage of a free Saturday to check out the Narcisse Snake Dens, about 1.5 hours outside of Winnipeg. While Joshua shows us how to handle one snake, it’s a whole different ballgame when there are more than 1,000 snakes.
Under the leadership of Cadet Rebecca Pretty, and the support of the CFOT brass band, over 60 kids and staff from the YMCA daycare enjoyed an afternoon program of singing, music, and dance. It was a natural combination as many of the cadets’ children attend the Y’s daycare program
CFOT is undergoing changes itself, and is pleased to announce the following changes to Officer Staff:
CFOT had a hoot singing this song for which Rob wrote the lyrics. It was the “pre-appointment guess where the GFW’s are going to” song. You can access this podcast at iTunes and download it to your favourite media player or listen here by clicking on the slider bar below.
The Salvation Army recently announced the opening of a College for Officer Training in Malawi. Pictured above is Mj. Sandra Rice presenting an LCD projector to Lt.Col. Wayne Pritchett for the new Malawi CFOT. CFOT Winnipeg counts it a blessing and a privilege to share with the training college in Malawi.
Once a month CFOT hosts a Dress Down Friday, but not everyone in the community checks their daytimer before leaving the house in the morning. One forgetful Captain pictured here improvised with the help of our costume cupboard. The efforts of the CFOT community have helped raise over $6200 to date for Partners in Mission.
Stopping only to digest a handful of trail mix, cadets dutifully study for their upcoming Old Testament Prophets exam. Such study parties are frequent at CFOT these days as we end our regular classes and prepare for exams. Studying is a way of life both at CFOT and in the field, as officers dedicate their lives to the study of God’s word.
On Saturday March 29th, people around the world observed what has become known as Earth Hour, an initiative created by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund, not World Wrestling Federation). This is a day when earth’s citizens were asked to turn off the electricity in their homes and businesses for one hour between 8:00pm-9:00pm local time.
Eats and Exegetes. The first word is easily understood, but what does “exegetes” mean? Exegesis simply means to study texts. Cadet Lynda Wakelin shares with us about this unique group that meets once a month over lunch to discuss the issues of the day.
