LEARNING FROM SCROOGE | BRIAN BOBOLO

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who was visited by the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come.  I think the story is really about a person who is given a second chance to respond differently to the message of Christmas and to express generosity, compassion and love [...]

NEW YEAR | RESOLUTION AND REVOLUTION

MAJOR ERIC BOND shares words of wisdom as we look into the past as well as to the future . . . “January is a month of new beginnings.  It is a time for New Year’s Resolutions.  It is a time of fresh starts and of new hopes for the coming year.  However, very often the hope is [...]

What does it mean seek treasure from heaven rather than from the world?  In the following youth devotional  Josh explores these and other important questions.   If you would prefer to view the devotional full screen select the [...]

SPIRITUAL LIFE | WHAT’S IN YOUR PURSE?

I have a huge purse that my husband calls a bowling bag.  I’ve taken to calling it my “tickle trunk”, as a tribute to the show “Mr. Dress-Up”, that I used to watch as a child.  While it is wonderfully useful and versatile, it can become a bottomless pit containing seemingly everything but the kitchen [...]

LIFE LESSONS FROM CHESS | FORTRESS

Key Bible Verses: The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18: 2) An important aspect of chess is to protect your king. After all, if you lose your king [...]

SPIRITUAL LIFE | DON’T TOUCH MY STUFF!

Grace Fox in her book, ‘Moving from Fear to Freedom’, tells this story. On November 17, 1999 Ann was meeting with a client in her print shop when the phone rang. It brought a message that forever changed her life. “Your house is on fire, and it’s fully involved,” said the caller, the captain of [...]

LIFE LESSONS FROM CHESS | PATIENCE

Key Bible Verses: A patient man has great understanding.  (Proverbs 14:29)  A key principal in chess is: do not reach out to play the first move that pops to mind. It makes no sense to snatch at a piece and quickly move it, only to discover too late that you are making a horrible mistake. [...]

LIFE LESSONS FROM CHESS | LEARN FROM MISTAKES

Key Bible Verses: Though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity.  (Proverbs 24:16)  One of the best ways to become a more proficient chess player is through your losses. Failing to learn from the games and positions you are exposed to sentences you to perpetual [...]

LIFE LESSONS FROM CHESS | WATCH OUT FOR TRAPS

Key Bible Verses: Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. (Matthew 22:15) In one of my early chess games I fell into a trap that is known as the “scholars mate”. It is a fascinating opening that takes advantage of a weak pawn. The end result was that [...]

CFOT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Scripture for Praying & Living

    May 18, 2012

     Praying Scripture – 1 Chronicles 16:29

    “Ascribe to the LORD
    the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come before him.
    Worship the LORD
in the splendour of his holiness.”

    Living Scripture - Hebrews 12:8-9

    If you are not disciplined
    (and everyone undergoes discipline),
    then you are illegitimate children
    and not true sons.
Moreover, we have all had human fathers
    who disciplined us
and we respected them for it.
How much more should we submit
to the Father of our spirits and live!

    Living Scripture - Daniel 6:10

    Now when Daniel learned
that the decree had been published,
he went home to his upstairs room
where the windows opened toward Jerusalem.
Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed,
    giving thanks to his God,
just as he had done before.

  • EASTER SPECIALING 2012

This Easter CFOT Cadets and Officers had the privilege of participating in a variety of Easter activities and services at Corps in Alberta.

Small goups of Cadets/Officers participated in all aspects of the Easter Services and were also able to spend some valuable time with youth groups.  In Calgary tradition, some of our CFOT folks were “white hatted” (see photos below).  A wonderful time of worship, outreach and fellowship was had by all.

A big thank you to the Alberta Divsion for hosting us!  You have been so gracious to us in sharing your ministries, your homes and your hearts with us…
