st. john’s | allowing God to work
Tue, Aug 12, 2008
Throughout my time in St. John’s, NL I have seen God use people in many different ways to minister his grace. I have seen people come together and pray over a brother in Christ who is hurting. They did not simply pray a few words but placed their hands on the man and wept over him. People pleaded with God to bring healing and strength to this man and his family. I have seen people who have never worked with children shine as VBS volunteers simply because they wanted the children to see the grace of God.
It is evident that the people here are ministers of God’s grace and are willing and eager for God to use them. Through the time that I have spent sitting in people’s homes as I have visited with them I have seen God at work in their lives. One woman shared how she would do anything to be able to get out to church. Despite not being able to get out to church she was able to share with me how God has blessed her and how she can confidently declare that God is faithful. Through my time visiting I have realized how important it is to allow people an opportunity to share what is on their hearts.
As an officer it is important to ensure that we stay out of the way and allow people to simply talk and share what it is that they are feeling. As I approach full time ministry I sometimes worry that I will be too eager to steal the spotlight and people will not be able to see God in their own lives. However, through my time here and the lessons that I have learned I am confident that God will provide me with the wisdom to allow people to be who they are and to share what is on their hearts so that He may bless them.
