Rebecca’s story begins in Dildo Newfoundland, the daughter of Donna and Theodore Pretty. In Rebecca’s words…my parents were very encouraging and as a child they encouraged me to participate in numerous church, school, and music activities, and so from a young age I developed a huge interest in music, especially piano and voice.
My passion for music grew throughout my life and in September 2000 I entered Memorial University of Newfoundland’s School of Music as a piano major. It was a place I loved, and I came away with Bachelor’s degrees in Music and Music Education. More than this I came to love the friendships that I formed while in Music School.
After graduating, I came to see that God had a special plan for me, and it involved my love for music, which led to me accepting a full-time music teaching position in an isolated, Inuit community on the North Coast of Labrador. It was a wonderful, life changing experience as I taught there for two years. I loved the community and the people, as well as all the winter activities.
When I’m not in front of a piano keyboard, the other interests which bide for my time include scrapbooking, reading Christian living books, snowmobiling, and working at camp!!!! I also have a huge interest in learning about different cultures and hopefully one day will be able to share God’s love with people of varying cultural backgrounds. One of my hopes is to have a ministry in an aboriginal community. God is good and I look forward to the next two years!
