REGINA | EXCEPT I AM MOVED WITH COMPASSION
Fri, Jan 22, 2010
With my first semester at training college completed, all I can say is wow. It has been a whirlwind, and I’ve stopped to catch my breath only to start all over again with studies and more training. Even though the thought of a new semester of studies and field work can seem overwhelming, I can honestly say that I am learning and growing in so many ways here at the college.
One of the biggest highlights of my training has been my appointment to Regina, Saskatchewan for my winter assignment. Although it was only a few short weeks ago that we celebrated Christmas, it seems to have long past and been forgotten. The same is not true of my winter assignment; I really enjoyed my time there and learned a lot under the direction of Captains Steven and Corinne Cameron and the team at Haven of Hope Ministries.
I arrived on Monday the 14th of December, and stayed until December 24th, and the time flew way too fast. The people of Regina welcomed me with open arms and put me right to work. I got to see and experience many different things through the ministries provided by Haven of Hope, whether it is standing on the kettle, preaching at a long term care facility, interviewing for hampers or handing them out. I even got to attend a Rotary Lunch, which encouraged me to know of the partnership of The Salvation Army with other organizations that want to make a difference in the community.
It was also encouraging to see that the Army still has a positive presence in the community. Standing on the kettles afforded me the
opportunity to meet many of the people of Regina, and often I would be met with an emotional donor who would tell me how grateful they were for the Army’s presence in the community. Through the kettle ministry, I was presented with the truth that, The Salvation Army is still marching along, and God still has a work for us to do.
The Words of General Albert Orsborn sum it up what ministry means to me, and what I experienced through the hard work and evident love of the people of Regina. As I continue to offer my life to God’s will, it is my desire that my life reflect him, just as I saw his reflection in the lives of so many at my winter assignment.
The Saviour of men came to seek and to save
The souls who were lost to the good;
His Spirit was moved for the world which he loved
With the boundless compassion of God.
And still there are fields where the labourers are few,
And still there are souls without bread,
And still eyes that weep where the darkness is deep,
And still straying sheep to be led.
Except I am moved with compassion,
How dwelleth thy Spirit in me?
In word and in deed
Burning love is my need;
I know I can find this in thee.
O is not the Christ ‘midst the crowd of today
Whose questioning cries do not cease?
And will he not show to the hearts that would know
The things that belong to their peace?
But how shall they hear if the preacher forbear
Or lack in compassionate zeal?
Or how shall hearts move with the Master’s own love,
Without his anointing and seal?
It is not with might to establish the right,
Nor yet with the wise to give rest;
The mind cannot show what the heart longs to know
Nor comfort a people distressed.
O Saviour of men, touch my spirit again,
And grant that thy servant may be
Intense every day, as I labor and pray,
Both instant and constant for thee.

Hi Jackie
I enjoyed reading your report and I concur the people of Regina are great. Bill & I had the privilege of serving 15 years in the Saskatchewan Division (as it was then called) five of those in Regina and we still hear from some of them. The good news is that they really appreciated your ministry and you.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the College experience and that you are learning a lot. I’m sure that all you are learning now can be put to use now and of course when you are commissioned.
As the Holy Spirit reminds I pray for you and we will look forward to your commissioning.
Love & Prayers

Hi Jackie:
What a great report, it sounds like you really enjoyed
Regina and the people living there. We know that the Army is
alive and well and enjoy following your experiences while
you are attending college. Over the years I have learned
that working the kettles is certainly a learning experience
when it comes to the reputation of the Army in the local community.
We are so pleased that you have chosen to serve God and work for
Him in whatever capacity that He chooses for you.
We love Ya!
Prayers and God Bless

What an awesome reminder of not only the work that the Army is doing, but more importantly, the work God is doing through your life. It’s also a challenge to all of us to allow His spirit to touch us and “be Intense every day, as I labor and pray,
Both instant and constant for thee.”
I love you and am very proud to see you following God’s will for your life – you are a blessing!

Jackie, this is a fantastic piece of work! I am blessed by hearing about your Winter Assignment personally and now through this posting. I am confident that God has a wonderful ministry for you and will continue to pray for you (& all of us here at CFOT) as we give our lives for the will of God. “Expect ‘we’ are moved with compassion’ should sum up all of our desires…{In word and in deed}, may we all be the hands~the feet~the mouth piece of our Savior, Jesus Christ!
Blessings!

How good it is to hear from you. I am so pleased to know that you are enjoying your stay at college & your ministry to the people. I always thought that one day you would be a S.A. Officer. It is wonderful to know that the Army is in good hands and that men & women are still responding to the call of God for full time service.
