Resolutions for 2010
Fri, Jan 1, 2010
As we replace our 2009 wall calendar with 2010, we are reminded of the various changes that have taken place in our lives in one short year. We started the year of 2009 in one province, at one address, driving the roads of Alberta, Saskatchewan and NWT. Here we are in Manitoba, surrounded by enthusiastic and visionary Cadets who are preparing themselves to begin ministry as Salvation Army officers. We are privileged to work side by side with the College staff that is using each opportunity to prepare, develop and inspire the ‘officers in training’.
As we peruse the various lists of resolutions that people make, it is easy to notice that they are very similar. Here are those that rise to the top in most lists:
1. Spend more time with family and friends
2. Fit in fitness – keep healthy
3. Tame the bulge – 66% of adults in North America are considered overweight or obese
4. Enjoy life more – life can be hectic and stressful; find a hobby, a diversion from the routine
5. Get out of debt. Were finances a big stress in your life this year? Control spending and get finances under control.
6. Learn something new
7. Help others
8. Get organized. This seems to be on the top of many lists and is a goal worth perusing. Whether you want your home organized enough to invite someone over on a whim, or your office organized enough to be able to find the stapler when you need it.
For us, the most meaningful resolution that we can make is to use each day to its fullest purpose. Maybe it comes with experience and age, but the years go by very quickly and before you know it another 365 days have passed by. The New Year ahead represents a ‘promised land’ and like the Israelites of the Old Testament, we would hear God’s word, “Speak unto the children of Israel , that they GO FORWARD.” Exodus 14:15.
We resolve to make the most of each day to its fullest purpose by moving forward into the New Year as a promised land to be claimed for God.
