Weston | Operation Christmas Child
Wed, Nov 18, 2009
This past Sunday afternoon, the members of Weston Community Church participated in Operation Christmas Child. Last year they filled over 80 boxes and this year they are working towards that same goal. After a delicious potluck lunch complete with perogies and piggies-in-a-blanket, we got down to business. We watched a short video about Operation Christmas Child as we put the boxes together. It heart-warming to see the reactions of the children when they received their special gift boxes.
Then, all the toys and goodies were placed on two long tables. Then everyone shifted through the assembly line to fill up the boxes. They were stuffed with cars, bouncy balls, crayons, dolls, candies, toothbrushes and lots of “TLC”. After all the boxes were stuffed and stacked, we gathered around and prayed for the children who would receive them, for the people who would deliver them and for the safe arrival of all the boxes.
What a great reminder of how blessed we are in this country and how we can give to others no matter what situation we find ourselves in. What a great activity to teach generosity to our children. Our five year old son Dawson spent the rest of the afternoon at home filling three more boxes with his toys he wanted to give to other kids. What a blessing!

“Each of you must make up your own mind about how much to give. But don’t feel sorry that you must give and don’t feel that you are forced to give. God loves people who love to give.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
