INKED – Youth Together BC 2009

Piercings and tattoos are external marks, attempting to communicate a part of who we are. The 235 young men and women from the BC Division gathered at Camp Sunrise were challenged to see the unseen ‘marks’ that Christ places on our hearts when we commit to living a life as a disciple of Christ. Over a Spirit-led weekend, youth and leaders alike were reminded that the marks Christ bares for us are personal, sacrificial and cover all (our sins).
Christ, marked for our transgressions, asks us to demonstrate his marks upon us – by the way we think, behave, and the way we influence others. We, in turn, need to consider the messages the world is sending us – through music videos, the internet, commercials, and magazines – and what affect they are having on us. We were also encouraged to think of ourselves as media: A means of communicating the message of Jesus Christ. We can choose to allow our cultural icons of sex, money, power to taint our hearts, or we can flee from these temptations, and fill our hearts with Christ’s love. Youth and adults alike were refuelled by the Holy Spirit, and responded with wholehearted worship through music, 24-7 prayer room shifts, and planning sessions for community-building service projects when they return home.
Our youth are seeking discipleship that is authentic and impactful. Let us be encouraged by their earnest desire to live a life that makes God’s invisible mark visible to those around us. Are you living a marked life?
