Welcome Weekend
Fri, Sep 25, 2009
Beginning on Saturday with home visits from the Territorial Commander, Territorial President for Women’s Ministries and Candidates Secretary, the cadets of the Ambassadors of Holiness session never looked back. It is a unique opportunity to have our Territorial leaders sit down with cadets in their apartments and sample everything from Tea and coffee to cookies and gummy bears, but more than this, to welcome in the newest session of cadets training to be
Salvation Army officers. While they visited the AOH’s, the Cols. Copple visited the Prayer Warriors to welcome them back from their Summer Assignments, and in case you were wondering…it takes 4 1/2 hours to visit each session.
Cadets left from their Waverly Residences to a variety of restaurants in Winnipeg, hosted by their Divisional Commanders as a wonderful support and sendoff to the new year. From what we hear, Lt. Cols. Tidd had the biggest group to feed, and for the record, Brandon Bond can eat as much spaghetti as Capt. R. Zelinsky.
Catch a few hours sleep, and back to CFOT they travelled for the morning family service filled with praise, thanksgiving, testimony and a challenge to holiness. A crowd favourite was the dance presentation by cadets Kyla McKenzie and Elizabeth Knight to Michael W. Smith’s “Purified”. Hearts were blessed by the testimonies of cadets Peter Kim and Joyce Wilson. It is encouraging to be part of a group of upcoming leaders who have enthusiasm and excitement, and this group lives up to that.
But wait, we’re not finished yet. The welcome meeting at Southlands Community Church finished off a long weekend of activity and emotion with highlights including the Ambassadors of Holiness singing their sessional song, a cello solo by Grace Kim, and a swinging dancing Days of Elijah. Mj. Eric Bond, Training Principle, reminded us the song was 20 years old, but still a crowd pleaser.
Tucked into Sunday, but not an afterthought was the installation services for Majors Eric and
Donna Bond, Training Principle and Director of Spiritual Formation respectively, and Majors Junior and Verna Hynes, D.C. and DDWM/AC for Prairie Division. With support from the congregation, and a blessing under the flag, all were charged by the TC to fulfill their duties to the fullest and to the glory of God.
A great day was had all around, and after a bit of clean up and great food by the Southlands Congregation we went home to rest because Field Class and Spiritual Formation come early on a Monday morning.
