Bishop’s Falls | Too Many Blessings to Count
Mon, Sep 14, 2009
Rose and I will never forget our experience in Bishop’s Falls Newfoundland. We will always cherish the friendships we made there and the beauty of the island. There seems to be a rule that a plate of food is not full until the gravy pours over the side and it is not thoroughly enjoyed until it is empty and refilled again.
Most of all we will remember the prayer that was offered in all the services or gatherings for the two cadets in their midst, that God would bless them and that their ministry would bless others. It seems that regardless how much we tried to minister to them, they were continually ministering to us. If we made mistakes, someone would point out a blessing God had given from it. It was a lesson in humility all the way as God seemed to say it is not our will but his that would prevail. All we were required to do was step up and make ourselves available.
Whether it was being called out at the last minute to comfort a family in time of grief, or showing up at the correctional facility for visitation and being told that your church is the only one we can count on to be here regularly, God worked in his way and timing in every circumstance and in doing so increased our faith to keep carrying on.
Hospital visitation, prison ministry, home visitation, preaching on Sundays and doing devotionals during the week, kept us busy and made for what seemed like a short summer. It was hard to leave behind so many good people as we were just getting to know them. They blessed us and encouraged us so much and as we keep them in our prayers it is reassuring to know that there are so many new voices raising us up in prayer as we continue on in our studies this year.
