Parry Sound | Ready?

“Be Prepared”. Many of you, like me, will recognize this motto from your youth in Girl Guides. While leading daily camper devotions at Newport Adventure Camp, Phil and I received a phone call from our host officers, during which they informed us that they (and therefore we) had been called upon to lead a funeral service the following Monday. The day before, we had accepted a “last minute” request to lead the upcoming Sunday service at another corps about an hour away from Parry Sound, and we were due back to camp for a second week later on the same day as the funeral. We were about to experience a typical week in the life of an officer. We reacted joyfully
because we felt able to manage and respond well.
Readiness, an essential quality of an effective pastor, is his or her availability to respond to God’s leading and His people’s needs at any time. These past few days God has again demonstrated that he asks this of us, by revealing his plan in his time. In order to be useful to God’s Kingdom he is asking more of us than we do of ourselves. During our summer in Parry Sound God has faithfully worked in us to shape our ability to respond. Now God is showing us how he fully can use us when we ensure we are fully available to him – and ready to serve.”
In His Hands,
