Dawson Creek | The Best Place on Earth
Tue, Aug 25, 2009
When you enter into the province of British Columbia this is the sign that you are greeted with. Since being here for four weeks already this sign has brought with it much truth and we are realizing that more and more each day, because this is the best place on earth. My heart has been blessed over and over through the many different types of ministry that I have been a part of thus far. Being a small town girl from Newfoundland this place is perfect because the scenery is beautiful; it has lots of trees, hills and friendly people what more could a Newfie girl want.
When we arrived in Dawson Creek on Monday, Thursday we were off to our very first of three camps until Saturday. Right from the start we were given a glimpse of what this corps is all about. This first camp was a camp for the disabled people of the corps. God’s presence was so real at this camp and that presence was revealed to us through the faces and the hearts of the
people that were at the camp.
After this camp was over we headed back to town to prepare for Sunday. During the Sunday service we were given a very warm welcome and everyone was so excited to see us. God’s presence was revealed in that service as many people came to the mercy seat for prayer and renewal. It was during that moment when God revealed to me that we are in the right place at the right time.
That Sunday afternoon we were headed off to camp again for two weeks with the little kids and the teens of the corps. Hearing stories from the kids about how messed up their families are, was very impacting to me. This camping experience showed to me how important it is to show love to each and every child, how important it is to care for our children, and how important it is to make sure our kids are kept safe.
Dawson Creek Corps is a wonderful church with many great people, we have made many friends, and we have experienced many special moments that we will cherish forever. The only problem we are facing is the problem of time moving way too fast.
Until next time from the hills of British Columbia…Cadet Melissa Haas
