“You say there’s not a lot going on?”

gasWe all know the theme song from the hit TV show Corner Gas… Well, just as comedian Brent Butt has shown us that there is more than what meets the eye in Dog River, the same can be said here in the North East Circuit of Saskatchewan. The Salvation Army certainly has a lot going on out here, and I am excited to be apart of it all! I have the privilege of working with officers, salvationists, adherents and army employees in serving three communities – Melfort, Tisdale and Nipawin. The people have been very warm and welcoming to us, and we have been very fortunate to meet some very kindhearted people! Now, I am a city girl, and I have to admit that living an hour and a half away from a Walmart was something I was a little concerned about… However, I have come to really appreciate the friendly atmosphere that surrounds smaller communities. Friendliness is just not as evident in the city!

We’ve been here for almost three weeks now, and I have been given some pretty awesome ministry opportunities! One of which, has been working with an ecumenical youth group. This youth group is made of both churched and un-churched kids. Last Friday we went horseback riding and swimming, then had a time of praise and worship and devotions around a campfire. As I reflect back, and see these kids sitting around the campfire, I can’t help but be reminded of God’s holy fire! It’s my hope and prayer that these kids will come to know God during these meaningful times.

I’ve also been helping out in the Thrift Stores, visiting with corps people, attending parades, operating the food bank, planning VBS, and have also been given opportunity to preach and proclaim the word of God! It has been an awesome start to our time here in the North East Circuit, and I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us here. Although serving in three communities means a lot of travelling back and forth, I just sit back, turn on the ipod and sing along to my favourite Song Book songs with Total Youth Invasion. “Send the fire, send the fire O, Lord. To magnify your name, to never be the same, we need your holy flame, send the fire!”

    Praying Scripture – Micah 6:8-10

    He has shown you,
    O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

    Living Scripture -  Psalm 25:3

No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame.

  • In Sunday January 22 2012

CFOT was pleased to welcome special guests Colonels Floyd and Tracey Tidd to our In Sunday on January 22, 2012.
The focus of their message was “Hope” and cadets and officers shared stories of life situations that may have seemed hopeless but which eventually brought them to know hope.

This In Sunday was also blessed by the attendance of our Field Based Training cadets – Peck-Ee Wong and Leonard Heng, and  Kim and Darryl Burry (and their family).
