MJ will never replace the real MJ – MESSIAH JESUS. Like most other earthly stars he set his eye on the wrong goal. Everything was about the earthly MJ and not about the heavenly MJ.

If only the media, and yes even our own beloved Salvation Army were as taken up with the urgency of spreading the gospel that Jesus Christ still saves, keeps and satifies!
I wrote about Michael on my personal blog today. It’s hard to understand the hype around his death. However, if you understand that MJ was a part of our culture, for those of us who grew up with his music and know the influence he had on our world, you’ll understand why there is so much hype.
It’s sad that so many people in this world are driven by their lust for fame in this very temporal life. We all need to be driven by eternity…..where will we spend it and how?
I didn’t watch most of the Memorial; but little bit I saw made me sad, Quincy Jones saying we needed him; but God must have needed him more.
I recently found I still had a few of his albums, not that I was playing them anymore, asked a friend to try to sell them for me; and I will give money to charity.
I will say his children do need our prayers.
Thanks for the comments. Tony, I agree we’re heading to eternity, but brother I have a lot more life left in these bones, and so the final destination isn’t the focus of my attention. We need to focus on how we usher the kingdom into our present world. How do we live as kingdom people in the here and now.
We live in a world where this type of hype is the norm for people such as Michael Jackson, and we know that more times then not, these people are even more popular in death then in life.
I think it will be intersting to hear in the next couple of days exactly how many billion people watched the events of today. As a family, we were talking about what MJ’s faith would have looked like. During his life he drifted from one belief to another, but I think there was always a strong belief in a God.
After watching the memorial today, it clearly showed a lot of strong Christian influence, and considering the many who were watching but are maybe not believers probably didn’t miss one second of the hype, we can only pray that something said or sang awakened something deep in thier hearts. If the words of MJ’s children didn’t melt their heart’s, then the closing prayer had to.
I think there was a whole lot more to MJ’s life and story then we will ever know, so while I don’t condone everything that he may have done, I certainly am not in a position to judge his life.
“However, if you understand that MJ was a part of our culture, for those of us who grew up with his music and know the influence he had on our world, you’ll understand why there is so much hype.”
Kathie- I wholeheartedly agree. He was a big part of my childhood and early adulthood and his music will forever live on. But yes, there is so much hype about his death because he was so influencial on our entire world (dance, charity, singing) etc etc….the death of someone so influencial will be hyped…I just didn’t realize HOW MUCH hype this would cause. What about Farrah Fawcett? It was a big deal in the morning, and then by the time Michael passed on in the afternoon, the hype was all changed over to him and continues to be on him. She wasn’t as big an influence to the world, but to many people she was a big influence in their lives. WHy no hype for her?
Don’t get me wrong, I am heartbroken that Michael has passed, but I also feel that there can’t ever be “closure” for his family and friends and fans if there is all this hype.
