AUXILIARY CAPTAIN | RON FARR

During my years in business, first as an Accountant, and later as a Software Engineer and Executive, I had shared the dream of entering into full-time Pastoral Ministry with my wife Linda. We have always been involved in Christian work with various churches, church plants and church organizations where I served in various roles including Associate Pastor, Deacon and the Toronto President of Gideon’s. Linda and I assisted in a number of church plants over the years and both of us felt the call to come along side the Holy Spirit in ministry. I believe that the Holy Spirit has blessed me with the gifts of evangelism, preaching and teaching.
My ministry with The Salvation Army began, in 2002, as the Chaplain for The Salvation Army Gateway: a men’s shelter in downtown Toronto. As ministry flourished at The Gateway, through the use of Stephen Ministry and Music and Teaching Ministry, it became clear that those leaving the shelter were often leaving the shelter community and moving into places of isolation in the city. There was a need for a community based church and integrated mission in the world beyond the shelter system for Toronto’s hidden homeless.
God soon gave Linda and I a vision to start The Warehouse Mission: a ministry to men and women in Cabbagetown and South St. James Town, Toronto. Since it’s beginning in 2003, when we became Lieutenants, The Warehouse Mission has become a successful corps serving in the margins for those in the margins.
I am excited about the road of ministry ahead, for I know that God is capable of great things. The theme scripture verse I have chosen for my life is:
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
