Phyllis Vega

Raised in a Godly home by wonderful Salvationist parents in La Scie, NL, did not deter me from rebelling against God during my teenage years.

Circumstances brought me to Toronto, where I met my husband Brian. God gifted us with two sons, and 1979 we started attending Cedarbrae Corps in Scarborough, ON. Both of us came to know the Lord and became involved in Corps work. Years later Brian was diagnosed with brain cancer and six months later he was promoted to Glory. This loss left me a single parent with many unanswered questions which caused me to question why there were unanswered prayers and walk away from God once again.
I met and married my present husband, Felipe and I felt the need to get back to God. We started attending Westminster Park Corps in London, ON. There I recommitted my life back to Christ but I still struggled with old hurts and questions but through prayer, healing and submission, God repaired my wounded spirit.

As God called us to ministry, Felipe and I entered the Salvation Army ranks as Lieutenants in August 2001.  I give God all the glory and honour for calling and using me, a broken vessel, to do His work.
Jeremiah 29:11 is my anchor verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

    Hi Phyllis,

I kept saying to Doreen we don’t know any one being commissioned. I guess I was wrong. It has been a journey for you. I am glad to have known you and Brian and the boys. Felipe seems like a good match. you both look great. We love you both!

    Blessings on you.

wow. thanks so much for being so transparent about your faith journey…God uses it to speak to others who believe that they are too broken to be of any use to God. Hallelujah! What a Savior…

  3. Kristen Gray Says:

    Hey Phyllis,

Who would have ever thought that God would have brougt both of us full circle and have our lives cross paths once again. I’m also sure it’s no coincidence that your scripture verse is the one that has also been my anchor for the past few years. What a blessing you are!

You are such and inspiration. God continues to use you and Felipe in such a marvelous way. Stay true and faithful my friend. Blessings on both of you.

  5. Jodie Yule Says:

    Phyl,
You are such a blessing to so many people including myself. I’m so glad you answered your calling and chose to do God’s work. You are such an inspiration to me and have helped me so much in my Christian walk. Love you lots!

  6. Len Ballantine Says:

That’s MY Phyllis and MY Felipe!! And don’t forget it. F’s not much of a golfer, as I recall. Then again, what SA officer worth his salt would want to rise above his CSM in a clubbing duel? Phyllis’s some spunky Newf, eh bye? and I’ll not forget that! How she ever got ‘ooked up with a laid back Latino like Felipe is beyond me. God has some ripe sense of humour, eh? Must have rubbed off when out in the dorry with brother Noah. Ask her about the bits she left out of the above!

    Praying Scripture – Leviticus 20:8

Keep my decrees and follow them.
I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

    Living Scripture -  Psalm 24:3

Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.

  • In Sunday January 22 2012

CFOT was pleased to welcome special guests Colonels Floyd and Tracey Tidd to our In Sunday on January 22, 2012.
The focus of their message was “Hope” and cadets and officers shared stories of life situations that may have seemed hopeless but which eventually brought them to know hope.

This In Sunday was also blessed by the attendance of our Field Based Training cadets – Peck-Ee Wong and Leonard Heng, and  Kim and Darryl Burry (and their family).
