I have been a follower of Jesus for over 15 years. I was born and raised in London, Ontario, and moved to Houston (in northern British Columbia) at the age of 17 with my parents. After meeting my wife Rachel, I moved to the greater Toronto area where we lived for seven years. Our home corps before coming to Winnipeg was Khi Community Church in Milton. We have two amazing children Emma (age 6) and Lucas (age 4) who fill our lives with joy among other things.
I attribute much of my faith and understanding to my parents who have taught me the importance of devotion to God. I would see them daily spending personal time with God and I would watch God bless their labours through their obedience and servanthood. My parents have been serving as Officers for the past 7 years in Prince Rupert, BC.
During a conference when I was 16, God revealed to me that my life would
eventually lead to full-time ministry. 10 years later, what God had revealed was being fulfilled. During those 10 years I held various positions, primarily in Business Solutions at various companies. I am thankful for those 10 years, as I seen the huge value of living out my faith in theworkplace and community.
As my time here at CFOT is coming to an end, I cannot express in words how much God has used this time to expand and enlighten my view and understanding of Him. I am very thankful for the Officers that have invested time into training me.

I am going to miss my time here, especially the fellowship with my fellow sessionmates whom I have drawn close to. But I am also excited to receive our first appointment and begin a new adventure. To whomever I’m called to serve, I look forward to being a part of what God has planned for you, and becoming your friend.
If God has laid it on your heart to serve Him as an officer, I encourage you to respond to the call and experience what God has planned for you.
Blessings,
Cadet Matt Sheils
